London’s Lewisham council is looking for a community organisation to work with residents who want to build their own homes on the site of a former school in the borough. Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock has given the green light to start the process of selecting a not-for-profit consortium or organisation to deliver a community-led self-build or custom build project of up to 30 new homes. The council is placing an emphasis on addressing housing needs and challenges, as well as high sustainability standards.
Council officers have been working with self-build facilitator, Our London, to understand the views of interested residents and the technical site constraints, and devise a selection process for community-led self-build enablers.
Expressions of interest from community groups must be received by 27 April.
