Empty offices to be converted to homes for market rent

North Hampshire housing association Sentinel is to redevelop two empty office developments in Basingstoke and Camberley to provide homes for market rent. Both are being remodelled through the use of ‘permitted development rights’, which allow redundant commercial properties to be converted to residential use without the need for a full planning application.

PMC Construction will convert the three buildings that make up the Camberley development to provide 56 apartments later this year.  Dextra Court in Basingstoke is being refurbished by FSL Interiors UK to provide 56 apartments, which will be available from October.

Mike Shepherd, development and regeneration director of Sentinel said: “The simple truth is that nationally we aren’t building enough new homes to solve the housing crisis. This type of redevelopment means we can get on site more quickly and turn these new homes around in about eight months.”
