Construction work has started on a £15m student accommodation scheme in Newcastle that is being built using modular technology from China. The Glass Works project will provide accommodation for 270 students in ensuite rooms and self contained studios in five blocks around a courtyard.
The scheme will be module maker China International Marine Containers’ (CIMC) first project in the UK student accommodation sector, although the technology is commonly used in the hotel sector.
Designer of the scheme is Ryder Architecture and contractor is Brims Construction. Elan Construction Management is leading the project on behalf of Bricks Capital. The first 151 room phase is scheduled to complete later this year.
